‘Review from When the City Speaks to the Loft Space’
by Jo Derbyshire.

Abstract:
The 'Loft Space Programme' is a curatorial initiative conceived and managed by Jo Derbyshire as the Curator and principle Artist. The concept was derived from an earlier research project of 'When the City Speaks', a live art platform of art and culture in the urban space. The 'Loft Space' took the ethos of the earlier project and placed creativity in the urban environment of a residential setting in Liverpool, England. From Derbyshire and an array of other local and international artists, contemporary art was exhibited, researched and developed in response to the spatial urban context. During the transitions of the space, Andrew Taylor, a Writer and Poet, was resident in the venue and produces a series of writings further in response to the creativity expressed by the artists. ‘Review from When the City Speaks to the Loft Space’ is a chronology and analysis of these events by Derbyshire in her critique of the final publication and references her work in urban culture and hybridity.
